Best Free-to-Play game you've played?

Post by MattS on Fri Aug 09, 2013 2:09 am

I wasn't sure where to put this thread, and this is my own forums, so Mad

Anyway, it's here! After reviewing Deathmatch Village: http://www.digitallydownloaded.net/2013/08/review-deathmatch-village-ps3.html I started to think to myself "what are examples of genuinely good Free-to-Play games? And do any exist on consoles?

I struggled to answer the second question. There's some great free-to-play iPad and PC games - stuff like Real Racing 3 and Might & Magic Duel of Champions, and Blacklight on the PC, but not so much in the world of consoles. From Dust was pretty poor, and the DC Universe MMO never appealed to me. I would like to give Spartacus a go, but the data corrupts at the moment when I try and patch the game.

The Wii U doesn't have any Free-to-Play games, but I have spent an unhealthy amount of time in the Google Streetview app, and Animal Crossing and Art Academy Sketchpad both look good.

So I'll open the question to the forums - what are some of your favourite Free-to-Play games, and are any of them on consoles?

Battlefield Heroes is the only one I liked, it was a F2P shooter done so well, I liked it more than the main Battlefield games.

BATTLEFORGE. Rts battles meets MTG style card collecting. It's a flawed but awesome game. I also enjoy Puzzle Pirates, now that's a game which knows how to make teamwork fun Very Happy

Speaking of free-to-play, EA's just released Ultima on the iPad.

Please don't screw it up EA. Please don't screw it up EA. Please don't screw it up EA.

When you gonna get Duel of Champions, Magikarp?

You know, it's odd - I haven't played a ton of 'free to play' titles. Tekken Revolution for the PSN was pretty solid. I like some of the free card games for my iPhone, like Tekken Card Tournament. Puzzles and Dragons is pretty fun too. I recently got into the Might & Magic card game on my PC, and haven't spent a dime yet. It's pretty well-set up as well.
